The goods purchased in China must comply with the laws and regulations of the People's Republic of China and be goods that the state permits to be imported. Relevant laws and regulations are as follows:
The currently published revised version of "<Prohibited Import and Export Goods List of the People's Republic of China>" and "<Table of Restricted Import and Export Goods of the People's Republic of China>" shall take effect as of March 1, 1993. The version released on November 1, 1987 is abolished simultaneously.
Prohibited Import Goods List of the People's Republic of China:

Various weapons, imitation weapons, ammunition and explosives;

Counterfeit currency and counterfeit securities;

Printed matter, films, photographs, music, videos, audio tapes, video tapes and laser discs, computer storage media and other items harmful to China's politics, economy, culture and morality;

Various potent poisons;

Opium, morphine, heroin, marijuana and other addictive drugs and psychotropic substances;

Animals, plants and their products with dangerous bacteria, pests and other harmful organisms;
-
Items that are harmful to human and animal health and can spread diseases from infected areas to other foods, medicines or other items.
Prohibited Export Goods List of the People's Republic of China:

All items within the scope of prohibited imports;

Manuscripts, printed matter, films, photographs, music, videos, audio tapes, video tapes and laser discs, computer storage media and other items containing national secrets;

Precious cultural relics and other prohibited items;
-
Endangered and rare animals, plants (including specimens) and their seeds and reproductive materials.
Restricted Import Goods List of the People's Republic of China:

Radio transceivers and communication security equipment;
-
Tobacco and alcohol;
-
Endangered and rare animals, plants (including specimens) and their seeds and reproductive materials;

National currency;
-
Other items restricted by customs for import.
Restricted Export Goods List of the People's Republic of China:

Gold, silver, precious metals and ornaments thereof;

National currency;
-
Foreign currency and negotiable securities;

Radio transceivers and communication security equipment;

Precious Chinese herbal medicines;
-
General cultural relics;
-
Other items restricted for export by customs.
